Prison Department is an independent Department that functions under the Home Department of Government of Maharashtra.
Prison Department of Maharashtra State is headed by the Inspector General of Police (Prison) and it is divided into four Regions as under :
WESTERN REGION
CENTRAL REGION
SOUTHERN REGION
EASTERN REGION
Each region is headed by a Dy. Inspector General of Police (Prison). All four DIGs, Prisons are from IPS cadre.
